Mommy and me yoga is a popular practice for mothers who want to practice yoga and spend time with their babies. Moms can do yoga at home with their babies, or they can attend a mommy and me class at their local wellness or fitness center. Practicing yoga with a baby does not actually require the baby to do any yoga though. In fact, the baby will spend most of their time lying comfortably on a blanket on mom’s yoga mat. Some mommy and me yoga classes focus strictly on getting in some yoga, while others give ample focus on the babies too.I was looking for more information and found it here. The classes that focus more on the babies will include games that interact with them.

Just like using a medicine ball in yoga, mom’s can incorporate holding their babies into their yoga poses. This will also help the baby become more comfortable during mommy’s yoga sessions. It’s a good bonding time and this gives them some attention. It also helps to bring a toy or two along to yoga classes to give baby some form of entertainment during yoga postures that they are not included in. Baby will likely laugh and giggle when mommy does downward dog over top of them, blowing kisses!

Yoga is a form of exercise not only for the body, but also helps the mind think more clearly and helps with memory. Therefore many elderly people are turning to yoga as a therapy more than a form of exercise. Anther way older age groups can benefit from yoga is building their immune systems, which is a problem among many older people.

Corpse Pose

The first Yoga pose that anyone can do is the corpse pose. In this exercise you are essentially laying down with your arms and legs, then you bring your knees up to your chest, while keeping your back flat against the floor. Then you can bring your knees back down into the starting position.

Cat Pose

This pose requires you to start with your hands and knees on the floor and with your head facing down. You will be in an arch like position, kind of what it looks like if a cat were stretching, hence the name of this exercise. You will then breathe in deeply and then breathe out.

Dog Pose

Similar to the cat pose, except it is done on your hands and feet compared to your hands and knees. Don’t forget to breath in and out to ensure total relaxation.

Cobra Pose

This pose you will start laying face down on the ground, and then you will lift yourself up with your hands, making sure your feet stay straight and are pressed firmly on the ground. You will want to keep your hands by your sides and keep your arms close you’re your body. When you lift yourself up as high as you can go hold that position and look straight up.

Warrior 1 Pose

In this pose you will start in a lunge position, with one leg in front and in back of you. Make sure your body is aligned in a straight manner and your legs are spread far apart according to the size of your hips. Keep your back straight and bring your arms up over your head.

Tree Pose

With this pose you start in a standing position and then raise your foot and rest in into your other legs’ inner thigh.

Plank Pose

In this pose start by putting your hands on the floor while holding yourself up. Then tuck your toes under with your body straight.

Seated twist pose

Start in a seated position and then bring your foot inward with as your knee rises. Then twist your body and put your elbow against the risen knee.

Happy Baby Pose (Child Pose)

In this pose you lay on your back, bring your knees up toward your chest, then grab your feet with your hands and hold the pose.

One-Legged Downward Dog

Start in the Dog position then raise one you’re your legs in the air.

The art of yoga blends fitness, well being, meditation and tradition into fluid movements of the body. This ancient tradition has been around for more than 5,000 years and began in ancient India. Yoga is spiritual, mental and physical and was practiced originally by yogis, or yoga practitioners. No one really knows who created yoga, but the art has flourished through many centuries. The Sanskrit word yuj, which means yoke or unite, is where the word yoga comes from.I was looking for more information and found it here. This art unites the mind, body and soul. Yoga contains many poses, also known as asanas, which focus on different parts of the body and breathing, or pranayama.

There is more than one type of yoga. Each technique focuses on something different, yet they all still do the same thing; integrating mind, body and soul. The different yoga techniques are Hatha, lyengar, Kundalini, Bikram, and Ashtanga. Hatha is the most commonly used form in the United States. Lyengar is similar to Hatha, but easier for the beginner. Kundalini is performed with more rapid movements. Bikram is done in the heat. Ashtanga, like Kundalini, is also performed with faster movements from one pose to another. Yoga has been said to be influential in Buddhism.
