Art Retreat – with Susie Hunt

Overview

Join respected British artist Susie Hunt for a week of guided creativity and exploration of materials. Whatever your art background – be it none or professional - Susie will help you push your talents further and explore your creativity in exciting new ways. During this week you will experiment with techniques both old and new, making use of a variety of textures, effects and colours. Susie will guide you on a journey from the traditional to the contemporary, from water colour to mixed media and lead you to explore the potential of different medias. No skill required.

About Susie

Susie Hunt trained at art college receiving a BA (Hons) in Fine Art – Painting in 1980. She taught for the Adult Education Service and also privately for many years and started leading painting groups at home and abroad ten years ago. She works with art societies around the country, specialising in workshops on watercolour, mixed media and life work. She is renowned for her encouragement of outdoor sketching using a variety of materials and, importantly, showing how then to interpret that work into more resolved paintings.

She is a stimulating and thoughtful tutor who encourages all levels of ability. With a strong foundation in traditional techniques, she moves her classes gently into the contemporary use of water-based media.

Susie concentrates primarily on her own work in her studio near Inverurie. She is a professional member of the Aberdeen Artists Society and is the founder and chair of the newly-formed North East Open Studios (the largest open studio project in Scotland).

Apart from solo shows in England, Scotland and Norway, her work has been included in RWS at Bankside Galleries London, RI at the Mall Galleries, SWA at Westminster Halls, Kent Painters Group, and Art for Youth North and London.

She has been featured artist in Artist & Illustrator Magazine and has written articles for that publication.

Important Travel Information

Arrival at The Sun Centre from 4 pm onwards on Saturday 28th May. Event proper begins Sunday morning and ends Friday night. Departure is any time after breakfast on Saturday 4th June. As this event is preceeded by a Yoga event, early arrivals are not possible. If you plan to arrive in the South of France on Saturday 28th, and make your way to us by public transport, you will need to be in the Nimes or Montpellier area by 2:30 pm and no later (unless you drive or take a taxi direct from the airports, in which case 4 pm is acceptable), otherwise you are unlikely to make it to the centre before dinner at 7 pm. Often our guests fly to Nimes or Montpellier on a late flight on the Friday and spend the night in a hotel. Please consult the travel page for more information.
