Yoga Retreats - with Bronwen Coghill Dates:
Cost: 500 EUROS (about £350) per week ‘yogah citta-vrtti-nirodhah’ – yoga
is the ability to direct and focus mental activity The sutras are a fundamental text on the practice and philosophy of yoga. This key sutra expresses the overall intention of the practice of yoga, and will form the theme of these yoga holidays. With this intention in mind, we will explore asana, pranayama, meditation and selected key sutras, discovering the relationships between them and how to apply this knowledge to inform our personal practice and our lives. The theme of the two weeks will be the same, but the first week will be more suitable for those wanting a gentler approach, with more restorative work and relaxation offered than in the second week. There will be two yoga sessions each day. We will start the day with a pre-breakfast morning session in which asana, breath, bandha and mudra will be combined in a flow-based practice to channel energy and focus the mind in preparation for a short pranayama and meditation practice to end the session. The late afternoon session will differ for each week:
The middle of the day will be free to spend at your leisure. Explore what the surrounding area has to offer – walking, horse-riding, mountain biking, bathing in the splash pool, or outings to local markets and river pools, combined with a picnic. Try a massage, or a personal Ayurvedic consultation from Alex Duncan. Or simply relax in the grounds of the Sun Centre and absorb the beauty of nature. Evenings will be ‘as the mood dictates’ –
talks or informal discussions, games (!!), or just doing your own thing. Bronwen Coghill trained as a yoga teacher through the SYTA. She teaches an integrated style rooted in classical Hatha yoga, drawing particularly from the schools of Shadow Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Yoga. Her practice is mainly flow-based, paying close attention to the bandas, alignment, rhythm and the breath in order to channel energy and focus the mind in preparation for meditation. She is also trained as a Kinesiologist, and draws on this training, as well as deep relaxation and emotional stress release techniques, to bring a deeper therapeutic approach to her yoga teaching. Bookings: The weeks are suitable for those who have already had
some introduction to and experience of yoga. General enquiries about THE SUN CENTRE contact: Alex or Sharon at or telephone France +33 (0) 4 66 45 59 63. Important Travel Information Arrival at The Sun Centre from 4 pm onwards on event start date. Event proper begins on the Sunday morning and ends Friday night. Departure is any time after breakfast the following day. Early arrivals are not possible. If you plan to arrive in the South of France on the Saturday, and make your way to us by public transport, you will need to be in the Nimes or Montpellier area by 2:30 pm and no later (unless you drive or take a taxi direct from the airports, in which case 4 pm is acceptable), otherwise you are unlikely to make it to the centre before dinner at 7 pm. Often our guests fly to Nimes or Montpellier on a late flight on the Friday and spend the night in a hotel. Please consult the travel page for more information.
