Yoga is a form of exercise not only for the body, but also helps the mind think more clearly and helps with memory. Therefore many elderly people are turning to yoga as a therapy more than a form of exercise. Anther way older age groups can benefit from yoga is building their immune systems, which is a problem among many older people.
Corpse Pose
The first Yoga pose that anyone can do is the corpse pose. In this exercise you are essentially laying down with your arms and legs, then you bring your knees up to your chest, while keeping your back flat against the floor. Then you can bring your knees back down into the starting position.
Cat Pose
This pose requires you to start with your hands and knees on the floor and with your head facing down. You will be in an arch like position, kind of what it looks like if a cat were stretching, hence the name of this exercise. You will then breathe in deeply and then breathe out.
Dog Pose
Similar to the cat pose, except it is done on your hands and feet compared to your hands and knees. Don’t forget to breath in and out to ensure total relaxation.
Cobra Pose
This pose you will start laying face down on the ground, and then you will lift yourself up with your hands, making sure your feet stay straight and are pressed firmly on the ground. You will want to keep your hands by your sides and keep your arms close you’re your body. When you lift yourself up as high as you can go hold that position and look straight up.
Warrior 1 Pose
In this pose you will start in a lunge position, with one leg in front and in back of you. Make sure your body is aligned in a straight manner and your legs are spread far apart according to the size of your hips. Keep your back straight and bring your arms up over your head.
Tree Pose
With this pose you start in a standing position and then raise your foot and rest in into your other legs’ inner thigh.
Plank Pose
In this pose start by putting your hands on the floor while holding yourself up. Then tuck your toes under with your body straight.
Seated twist pose
Start in a seated position and then bring your foot inward with as your knee rises. Then twist your body and put your elbow against the risen knee.
Happy Baby Pose (Child Pose)
In this pose you lay on your back, bring your knees up toward your chest, then grab your feet with your hands and hold the pose.
One-Legged Downward Dog
Start in the Dog position then raise one you’re your legs in the air.
